Exquisitely applied makeup: flawless complexion, gorgeous eyes and perfect lips. This is the stuff of magazines, yes? No! This is the stuff of your senior portraits. The best, easiest way to ensure this look of perfection is to schedule an appointment with a professional make up artist who has been trained to bring out your natural beauty. By having your makeup and hair done on the day of the session, you’ll have less to worry about and guaranteed professional results.
Here are some basic tips if you choose to do it yourself: 1. use light foundation that matches your skin tone and cover-up for any blemishes. 2. for eyes, chose natural neutral colors with the lightest on the entire eyelid, the darker in the crease and a medium color in between; line top and lower lids if desired, use an eyelash curler if you wish and carefully apply mascara. Avoid: sparkly eye shadow, heavy eyeliner and goopy mascara. 3. apply tinted lip gloss or lightly glossy, natural colored lipsticks and a bit of gloss.
Bring along your makeup bag with lip gloss, powder and/or blotting paper. With a little practice, getting your makeup just right will be a breeze. Nancy can suggest a few qualified make up artists if you have not worked with anyone you wish to use.
Some ladies like to have their hair professionally styled on the day of their session and some like to do it themselves. It is a good idea to consult with your stylist two to three weeks before your session to chat about different styles you might wish to use, and have your hair trimmed or touched up if needed. Talk with her/him about what you are thinking of wearing, and take in some magazine pictures of hair styles that you like and ask if they might look flattering on you.
Your goal is to be naturally lovely on the day of your session so elaborate hair styles are not recommended. If you plan to style your own hair, make sure you are comfortable and confident with the look. Remember, if you are planning on changing your look during your session, bring the necessary tools( clips, combs, spray, a mirror) to do so and always throw in your brush and some spray.
WHAT ARE MY CHOICES FOR LOCATION
I love the natural glow from the most versatile light of them all - the sun. I love to balance good light with beautiful natural backgrounds. I am constantly scouting out cool locations with great light. We don’t care if you want to go downtown, out in the country or your own backyard. We have photographed at athletic fields, horse barns, air fields and gyms. We’re open to it all, so bring on your wild ideas and dreams!
The look of any location varies during the session and seasons so that we can get bright, backlit, color saturated images; softer, more muted images and strong, high contrast images all during the same session.
I have an extensive list of locations where I have photographed. Click HEREand send us a message to request the guide.
WHAT TIME OF YEAR SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY SESSION?
Family sessions can occur any time of the year but by far the most popular time is before the holidays. Holiday cards, gifts for friends and family and the continuity of yearly family pictures usually makes late fall the perfect time for a family session. Fall color and golden fields add to the attraction of this time of year.
Another popular time is late spring. The weather is usually comfortable, spring leaves and flowers are beautiful and for many families, schedules are more open.
My high school senior clients select the time of year that they would like to be photographed, from summer after junior year until late spring of senior year. This allows for more versatility in clothing selection, location choices and timing convenient to the senior and your family. I schedule a maximum of two seniors per day so no waiting for your session to begin -we stay relaxed and have fun.
Many of my clients enjoy sharing their senior portraits with family and friends as holiday gifts. Therefore, it makes sense to schedule senior portraits for the summer or fall. Nancy Faircloth Photography holiday deadlines happen right after Thanksgiving, as do deadlines for Yearbook Senior Dedication pages, so this time frame is very convenient to many seniors.
Girls, if you have scheduled your formal yearbook portraits with the school photographer and plan on making an appointment for hair and make up, we can schedule your portrait with Nancy on the same day - saving you money and time!
